Monaco want Manchester United winger Nani

Manchester United winger Nani has emerged as a transfer target for big-spending French side Monaco, according to A Bola.

The Portuguese newspaper, quoting reports from France, claims that Nani is the latest big-name identified by the club as they look to mount a title challenge in their first season back in the top flight.

The 26-year-old Portgual winger has been linked with a move away from Old Trafford since the beginning of last season, and reportedly came close to quitting the club in the January transfer window.

Serie 'A' champions Juventus were thought to be in pole position, while Arsenal were also linked. But a move never materialised.

Nani's most memorable contribution last season was his red card in the Champions League last-16 second leg against Real Madrid.

A former United Player of the Year, the ex-Sporting star dropped out of contention towards the end of Sir Alex Ferguson's reign.

And reports speculating over his future have not abated despite Ferguson's retirement. United brought in Wilfried Zaha - which could make Nani expendable.

He's under contract until next summer, so United will have to sell him before the close of the transfer window if they want to recoup a significant fee for the gifted wide-man.

He not not travel on United's pre-season tour of the Far East because of a nose injury.
