Chip Kelly will coach his first NFL franchise after a long and distinguished career in the college game and has vowed he will hold true to his quick, no huddle offensive style.
As a result, quarterback will be, as ever, one of the most important positions on the park. Who will Kelly choose to be his offensive leader?
The three quarterbacks on the Philadelphia roster are Michael Vick, Nick Foles and fourth round draft pick Matt Barkley.
The men at his disposal all have their upsides and drawbacks, but who will fit best into the college-style offence that Kelly will employ?
Barkley was a highly sought after draft pick that many were surprised to see not drafted until 98th pick.
The rookie from USC was a consistent match winner in his four years as starting quarterback in college and could pose a serious threat to the more experienced pair he will be competing with for a starting berth. While he may not be the athlete Michael Vick is, Barkley is an excellent pocket passer, who is very comfortable finding multiple receivers in different areas of the field.
Known for his excellent footballing IQ, Barkley will have the necessary skills and intelligence to co-ordinate a fast paced offensive style and will be more accustomed to doing so than the comparative NFL veterans.
Foles last season was a first year starter, after taking over from Michael Vick in mid-season and impressed scouts all over the NFL with his precision passing. Foles has a similar style to Barkley in the way that neither is a scrambling type quarterback, but the Kelly is more likely to want someone who can make accurate passes under pressure, something Foles demonstrated last season when he got his chance.
Vick would be considered the least conventional of the three in style and probably fit into Kelly's college style offence the least. While his passing accuracy over an intermediate range could be questioned, Vick is an NFL veteran, having been in the league for 12 years - with a two year break to serve jail time - and his experience may once again bring him to the forefront of the list.
Vick has proved himself time and time again in the league and I wouldn't put it past him to do it again next season if he's Kelly's number one choice.
