Shaquille O'Neal: Nets better than New York Knicks
Shaquille O'Neal thinks Brooklyn Nets have better team than New York Knicks
Shaquille O'Neal thinks the Brooklyn Nets have a better team than the New York Knicks, according to ESPN.
The legendary centre tips the Nets, who have made a series of blockbuster acquisitions, to be the team to beat in the Big Apple next season.
O'Neal's been impressed with their trades, bringing in Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett from the Boston Celtics, and their appointment of Jason Kidd as head coach.
"I'm going with the Nets right now over the Knicks - all day, every day," O'Neal told Newsday on Thursday.
"[Coach Jason] Kidd's a great guy. He's a great leader. I'm anxious to see when things get tough how the guys are going to respond.
"It's a dangerous lineup. I was thinking about it on the way over here."
The Knicks were led by scoring champion Carmelo Anthony last season, and won the Atlantic Division. The Nets finished five games behind their city rivals.
But the addition of Kidd, plus Pierce and Garnett, gives the Nets' roster a new look heading into next season.
Alongside the likes of Brook Lopez, Joe Johnson and Deron Williams, they have one of the strongest starting lineups in the NBA. Questions remain over their shallow bench, but O'Neal feels they've significantly upgraded their club.
The Knicks lost in the playoffs to the Indiana Pacers last season in the Eastern Conference semifinals. The Nets lost in the first round of the playoffs to the Chicago Bulls.
