The Dallas Mavericks have offered a contract to former Detroit Piston point guard Jose Calderon.

The 31-year-old spent last season with the Pistons, and eight previous seasons with the Toronto Raptors. The four-year contract is valued at $29m.

I believe Jose Calderon has plenty to offer the Dallas Mavericks. He’s got size, experience and fairly consistent success from the three point position. Last season the point guard led the NBA with an impressive shooting percentage of 46 from the three point.

The Spaniard will be joining a fairly experienced and talented Mavericks roster. He’ll be joining Vince Carter, Darren Collison, and Bernard James. This roster has a fairly good mix of younger and experienced players.

This opportunity will allow Jose Calderon to re-establish himself. He’ll be another great leader for the team, and will only improve his skills in Dallas. In fact, he could yet again lead the NBA with high percentage shooting from the three point position.

But it’s not only his accurate shooting ability that will benefit the Mavericks. Jose Calderon has shown in previous seasons that he can help out defensively as well. He uses his height affectively to draw fouls and block

I really hope that he’ll be able to excel in Dallas and maybe even get the chance to fight for a championship ring. The Dallas Mavericks Head Coach Rick Carlisle will be quite pleased with this new signing.
