Arsenal centre-back Per Mertesacker believes the current crop of players at the club are good enough to see the side mount a serious title challenge come next season.
However, the Germany international has also urged manager Arsene Wenger to splash the cash and add depth to the team.
Last season was one to forget for Arsenal after they suffered another trophy-less season and only just scraped into a top-four spot.
Dismal showings in both domestic cups was followed up by a last-16 knockout in the Champions League.
However, despite the lack of silverware, Arsenal ended the 2012/13 season on a high and ended the campaign unbeaten in the final ten games, picking up eight wins and two draws.
The impressive end of season form has given the Gunners hope for the new campaign and their big German defender believes the side are finally ready to end their eight-year trophy drought.
Mertesacker told reporters: "In general, I would say that consistency is the most important thing. If we can do that then we should be challenging for trophies and titles.
"We had such a strong finish at the end of the season, especially in the last 10 games. We put out a good team with great spirit and that is the target for the whole season.
"We must be well prepared - both mentally and physically - to do it straight from the off. It’s very hard to be consistent.
"That’s the main reason for Manchester City and Manchester United being successful in the last two years.
"They have shown for the whole season that they are consistent and that will be our main focus for the next season to show that as well.
"We haven’t sold any players yet so we are coming from a good base at the moment, we’re at a good level and no-one is leaving at the moment.
"Maybe someone will come and strengthen our squad so it’s a better position than last summer when we lost two important players [Robin van Persie and Alex Song]."
Arsenal kicked off their pre-season tour of Asia with a 7-0 victory on Sunday against an Indonesia all-star team.
