In the 2012/13 campaign, Scott Sinclair made a total of 11 Premier League appearances. This is a drastic decline from his 82 league games he played for Swansea City between 2010-12.
He has gone from winning Swansea promotion, to fighting for a place on the substitute bench at the Etihad.
He is among many other youngsters who have sacrificed playing time to play for their 'dream' club.
One example of this is Marko Marin. After arriving at Werder Bremen from Borussia Monchengladbach, he was a part of a thrilling attack which included Mesut Ozil.
He showed his quality that season, scoring four league goals and managing 11 assists. After Ozil left, he didn't look the same player. His only goal in the 2012 campaign came on February 18, 2012, when he opened the scoring in a derby victory against Hamburger SV.
He ended his time at Werder Bremen after scoring eight goals in 87 Bundesliga apps for the club. His move to Chelsea came on April 28, 2012, wanting a new challenge. Despite his dream coming true, he made six total league appearances, scoring only one goal during the 2012-13 campaign. After being such a promising player in Germany, he has become a forgotten player in England.
Although many players have left too early, some have decided to stay, rejecting bids from major clubs.
This is the case in Luke Shaw. He has snubbed both Chelsea and Manchester United to sign a new deal with Southampton. At the tender age of 18, his development is essential.
It is amazing to see how mature the left-back is - many players would jump at the chance to play for the likes of Chelsea and United, however he has set an example to all other young players that first-team football should always be the number one priority.
Young players leaving their respective clubs too early has become a reoccurring theme in the world of football. This has led to some major busts. Development at such a young age is critical, and first-team football is a must during your late teens and early twenties. It just goes to show that if you are patient and await your time, you will succeed and make your dreams come true.
