Tottenham are ready to up their bid to £20m for Aston Villa striker Christian Benteke, while Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal each consider bids of their own, according to the Daily Star.

The 22-year-old striker has reportedly handed in his transfer request as he looks to force through a move to a bigger club. But Villa are holding out for £25m for the Belgian international - they signed him from Genk for £7m last summer.

Chelsea considered offering Demba Ba plus cash for the forward, but Benteke reportedly feared he would not be first-choice at Stamford Bridge.

He's keen to ensure any potential move continues to guarantee him first-team football.

Spurs have a need at striker, and are trying to offload Emmanuel Adebayor to fund a bid for Benteke after shelling out £17m for Brazil international Paulinho.

Playing time is a huge consideration for Benteke, especially with a starting place in Belgium's World Cup squad up for grabs.

Arsenal and Liverpool have both also been linked with the powerful forward, who scored 19 Premier League goals in an impressive debut season.

His goals helped keep Villa in the top flight, and they're under no pressure to cash in after preserving their Premier League status.

But with the likes of Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool and Spurs waiting in the wings, a big-money bid could be in the offing.
