Following a season that has seen greats of the game hang up their boots, including Paul Scholes, David Beckam and Marco van Bommel, we take a look at players that have been identified as possbile stars of the future.

The footballing world has many young players who unquestionably dominate the game and have skills well beyond their years. Players like Neymar, Stephan el Shaarawy, Lucas Moura and Raphael Varane to name a few.

The players listed below are who I believe will ultimately be put into the category of football 'superstars' if given another couple of years to develop and gain more experience.

Luke Shaw

Coming through the ranks of the Southampton youth academy, the 18-year-old left-back has now established himself as a first-team player. Just recently he signed a five year contract to keep him at St Mary's for the foreseeable future.

Staying at Southampton will ultimately be beneficial for Shaw, at such a young age regular game time can never be taken for-granted and it will allow him to extend on his abilities while he gains more experience.

In all competitions last year, Shaw made 29 appearances which emphasises the importance he has to a Southampton team that looks to become only more competitive in the future.

A very young, gifted player with great technical abilities. The key for Shaw is to stay injury-free and play as much first-team football as possible so that he gives himself the best chance.

Kurt Zouma

At the age of 18, Zouma is already a talented enough player to be a regular in Ligue 1 side Saint-Etienne's starting line-up. He has a lot of experience playing top level football, having represented the under-16, 17, 19 and 20 French national teams.

His good form over the past two seasons has seen the likes of Chelsea and Arsenal wanting his signature which would mean a move to a league which is more aggressive and fast-paced.

He has been commended for his maturity as a player and has also been dubbed as the next French captain. Another excellent season for Zouma could see him excel to the status of super-star, much like his French counter-parts Raphael Varane and Paul Pogba.

Overall, Kurt Zouma has a long and hopefully successful career ahead of him, a very talented player who shows all the qualities of a great centre-back.

Marco van Ginkel

The Dutchman made quite the impression during his three-year career at Vitesse Arnhem, that included 100 appearances and 22 goals, he has now signed a contract that will keep him at Chelsea until 2018.

A midfielder with all the skills, he also has the backing of new Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho who believes that he is one of the best prospects in European football at the moment.

It was a career defining move from Vitesse to Chelsea but is one that will most probably be worth it as Mourinho will gradually ease the 20-year-old into the first-team.

Labelled as the next Frank Lampard by many, Van Ginkel could possibly be the player that Chelsea fans have been yearning for.

Geoffrey Kondogbia

Having caught the eye of many of Europe's big clubs, Kondogbia has had a very successful 12 months. He is a defensive-midfielder with a great mix of strength and technical ability that has placed himself firmly in the starting eleven for his club, Sevilla.

The 20-year-olds playing style has been compared with Yaya Toure because of the explosive, unstoppable charges he makes with the ball but also because he is able to dictate a game with his playmaking abilities. There is speculation that Manchester United are looking to acquire his services.
