Manchester United have made a formal bid of £25 million for Barcelona midfielder Cesc Fabregas.
It is unknown whether this meets the valuation set by Barcelona but the player is believed to be interested in a move back to England, although he isn't demanding a move.
The bid was made by Manchester United after it recently came to light that Bayern Munich had beaten them in the race to sign fellow Barcelona midfielder Thiago Alcantara.
Cesc Fabregas was a product of the Barcelona youth team, before he was signed in 2003 by Arsenal. He emerged as a fans favourite at the London club, and became captain in 2008.
In 2011 he returned to Barcelona, winning the Copa del Rey and La Liga, although he has yet to win over some of the Catalan supporters.
He has won 83 caps for Spain, securing two European Championships and a World Cup in the process.
This bid signals David Moyes' intentions to strengthen his squad with a creative midfielder, amidst the retirement of Paul Scholes and the uncertain form of Shinji Kagawa and Tom Cleverly.
Should this transfer go ahead, Fabregas will reunite with striker Robin van Persie, another former Arsenal striker who has ended up at Old Trafford.
