Christian Benteke was prolific for Aston Villa last season and his outstanding performances helped his club to fight relegation and stay in the Premier League.

But will he rise to the challenge of being a £20m+ signing?

We have seen players throughout the years who have taken the Premier League by storm in their first season, only to fail to live up to expectations the following season. Could this happen to Benteke? Or is he a genuine candidate for the golden boot within a couple of seasons?

Benteke scored 23 goals in 39 matches for Villa last season, a very impressive return for his £7m price tag. This included 19 in the league, leaving him only seven short of equaling Robin van Persie.

After handing in his transfer request last week, he has now alerted the attention of many clubs including Atletico Madrid, Liverpool and Tottenham, and therefore also attracting a much bigger price tag to the one which Villa paid for his signature.

Could he live up to a price tag around three times what his current club paid? The club which wins the race to sign him will no doubt demand a bag full of goals from the Belgian youngster for the price tag he is carrying, after only one season in the Premier League.

Aston Villa have signed Danish striker Nicklas Helenius to hopefully replace the hole which Benteke will leave in their attack. Helenius has scored twice for Villa on their pre-season tour in Germany, but he will have a lot to work to do if he wants to match the goalscoring prowess which Benteke showed last season.
