Liverpool have been given a major boost in their pursuit of Christian Eriksen – by Ajax manager Frank De Boer.

The talented Danish international has been heavily linked with a move to the Reds, with Brendan Rodgers reportedly keeping tabs on the 21-year-old.

Impressive performances in both the Eredivisie and Champions League has also alerted Borussia Dortmund to the £15million-rated playmaker, according to The Daily Express, but the German giants have denied interest in the player.

That would seemingly leave the Reds with a run at the player, if they wish, and Godenzonen chief Frank De Boer admits he won’t stand in the way of the player if he wants to move to Merseyside.

"It is up to Christian what he wants," said De Boer, according to the paper.

"If he feels good going to Liverpool, then it is up to him. I would want nothing more than having him with us for a few more years.

“But we realise the interest in this kind of player is huge. And I can also understand that he wants to make another step in his career. I can't stop him."

Eriksen himself has played down the transfer speculation, insisting he knows nothing about the link to Anfield – or any other club for that matter.

"I do not know more about this than you," he told Voetbal International

"If I leave, I have to go to a club that is bigger than Ajax in every way. But no clubs like that have shown interest yet. I've read a lot about it, but heard nothing from the club."

Liverpool have already strengthened their squad in a number of departments this summer, with Simon Mignolet, Kolo Toure, Luis Alberto and Iago Aspas all joining the club.

Eriksen would be the signing of the summer for Rodgers if he could lure him away from the Amsterdam Arena, and the comments from De Boer are certainly a step in the right direction, with the former Holland star clearing the path for a move.
