Aitor Karanka has left his position of assistant coach at Real Madrid, and he now has the option of moving to Chelsea.

The Spaniard, who had been in his position of coach since 2010, previously turned down a chance to join former Real manager Jose Mourinho with the Blues, and waited to see of he was still needed by last year's Primera Liga runners-up.

But with the arrivals of Zinedine Zidane and former Chelsea youth coach Paul Clement arriving, the 39-year-old is now torn between joining his former boss in England, or pursuing a career in management in France.

"If I do go though, I’ll join Mourinho at Chelsea – or maybe even become a manager at a top French club," he said to DTLux Magazine.

"I was the person who knew Mourinho better than anybody else and I have to say that it was a privilege to work with him.

"I am proud to be able to say I am a friend of his. It was my first experience in the coaching field, and it was an incredible experience with him."

The former Spain international also played for Real Madrid between 1997 and 2002, but he has now parted with the club by mutual consent.
