Barcelona midfielder Cesc Fabregas is prepared to move to English champions Manchester United, if the Catalan club choose to sell him this summer.

The Spaniard, who rejoined his boyhood club from Arsenal, is only used as a back-up player for the first-team at the Nou Camp and despite not being first-choice, it was reported that he was happy at the club and willing to remain at the Spanish champions.

However now it appears that the Spanish midfielder is prepared to leave Barcelona if they want to sell him.

The 26-year-old is behind the likes of Xavi, Andres Iniesta and Sergio Busquets in the Barca squad and after United made a formal bid of around £26million, it looks like a shock move to Old Trafford could be on the cards for the former Arsenal captain.

There may be a slight hiccup in the move to United though as in the midfielder's contract, it is his ex-club Arsenal that get first refusal at the player, so they automatically get the first chance to sign the midfield-man, but it is reported in Spain that Fabregas himself would prefer a move to Old Trafford.

A Spanish source said: “Cesc would only go if Barcelona agreed to sell him.

“The Barca midfield is already looking very crowded for next season and you wonder how many games Cesc will start.

“He wants to play in the World Cup next summer and needs to be playing regularly.

“Arsenal have first refusal on him but he’d prefer a switch to United.”

New United boss David Moyes has already missed out on Thiago Alcantara after he chose to join Bayern Munich, so his attentions are now firmly on Fabregas and it is suggested if that move fails, he will return to Goodison Park to try and sign Belgium star Marouane Fellaini.
