Spanish under 21 star Thiago Alcantara opted to join Bayern Munich, despite reported interest from Manchester United.
However, choosing the the German giants was the wrong decision.
Thiago had been struggling to gain first-team experience at Barcelona - he was fighting for places against the likes of Andres Iniesta, Xavi Hernandez, Cesc Fabregas, Alex Song, and Sergio Busquets.
Therefore most football fans assumed his next club would be Manchester United, as they are looking for a quality midfielder to strengthen their title winning squad, and someone who can become a first-team regular at Old Trafford - a no-brainer for Thiago?
It seems not.
The Spanish midfielder left Barcelona to join Bayern Munich, where he will face still competition from players such as, the defensive partnership of Javi Martinez and Luiz Gustavo, together with the attacking qualities of Toni Kroos, Mario Gotze and Thomas Muller, alongside the brilliance of Bastian Schweinsteiger.
An equally tough midfield, if not slightly better than the one at Barcelona.
Bayern Munich's midfield dominated the semi-final Champions League win against Barcelona in a 7-0 rout.
Something that rocked the footballing world. So, if he couldn't get into the Catalans midfield, what makes him think he will get into Bayern's?
Why didn't he choose Manchester United?
They are crying out for quality in their midfield. The likes of Anderson, Nick Powell, Darren Fletcher and Tom Cleverley, with all due respect, are not of the quality of the likes we see above.
Thiago would have had a very good chance of playing most of Manchester United's Premier League games next season, something he will struggle to do at the Allianz Arena.
Do you agree with his move to join Bayern Munich, or do you think he should have joined the Premier League champions?
