Manchester United have needed a world-class midfield maestro for many seasons now, but new boss David Moyes look ready to address the weakness in his squad.

The Red Devils look ready to fill the gap left by United legend Paul Scholes after he announced his second and final retirement as a United player last season.

United will be left struggling in the centre of the park with several other players alongside Scholes considering departing the Manchester based team.

Players like Darren Fletcher and Ryan Giggs are moving ever closer to the end of their careers and United refuse to rely on the club's youth to haul them to yet another Premier League title.

Here are four of Europe's midfield gems that could set Old Trafford alight next season and really help United push on for more trophies.

Claudio Marchisio

The Juventus man has earned major plaudits around the world for his fantastic displays for club and country in recent years, and is looking for a new challenge in world football. He has won several trophies with Italian outfit Juventus and has developed himself into a full Italian international.

Marchisio was at the heart of Juve's success in domestic football last time out and enabled them to win consecutive Serie A titles.

Marchisio announced himself onto the international stage and had a very successful Confederations Cup campaign as he really showed what he had to offer in what was a promising Italy side.

The dynamic midfielder would fit perfectly into David Moyes' United system and would provide fantastic service for the fir power of Manchester United.

Cesc Fabregas

The ex-Arsenal star hasn't really shone at Barcelona and is said to 'miss' the English game. Cesc Fabregas really exploded onto the world scene after consecutive world-class campaigns for Arsenal and Spain.

He eventually earned himself a multi-million transfer to Barcelona, his childhood club.

After all the hype of the big-money move calmed down Fabregas began to settle in at Barca, but with a full season played out Cesc found himself operating as nothing more than a bit part player at the Catalan giants.

The Spaniard couldn't hold a starting position ahead of Xavi and Andres Iniesta and is said to fancy an ambitious move back to England.

Cesc is a fantastic talent and would benefit the likes of Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie with his fantastic passing ability and unbelievable ball work.

Fabregas has already set England alight once - could he to do it again?

Nemanja Matic

The Benfica holding playmaker Nemanja Matic is an amazing talent. The Serbian is a huge presence on the pitch as well as having fantastic technical ability. Matic was a regular in the Benfica line up last season and really announced him self on the European football scene.

Nemanja has fantastic feet as well as an aggressive mentality, he works hard and has a fantastic engine in the middle of the park. The promising Serbian can pick a pass as well as a tackle and is a real commander on the pitch.

Matic would be a fantastic acquisition for the Manchester club and would make a real impact on what is a stale Manchester United midfield.

Marouane Fellaini

The Former Everton boss David Moyes is said to be interested in bringing Everton club favourite Fellaini into his new scheme at Manchester United. Moyes has spoken highly of the talented Belgian in the past and looks set to ignite a reunion between him and his former talisman.

The tall Belgian is a commanding figure in midfield and is an almost scary presence on the field - the big lad is a real fighter and will never back down. As well as having a fantastic aerial presence the Everton star also possesses great feet. He can pick a pass as well as find the net which is exactly what United need in their midfield.

Moyes seems keen on bringing Fellaini back under his reigns and would be confident of fending off interest from both London outfits Chelsea and Arsenal, who are said to be fellow admirers of the Belgian playmaker.

Fellaini has fantastic ability and would bring a new dimension to the United squad as well as strengthening the initial group of players Moyes had to work with.
