There have been reports of Didier Drogba making a sensational return to Chelsea in this summer's transfer market.

It is no secret that Jose Mourinho has a soft spot for the player he once called a “son”, but would the reality of the deal overshadow the sentiment?

Chelsea recently signed Andre Schurrle from Bayern Leverkusen and with Romeu Lukaku returning from his successful loan spell at West Brom there seems to be no need whatsoever for another striker at the Bridge.

Although with this said, the return of the prodigal son at the same time as the return of the “Special One” would be a mouth-watering affair, but would the deal be viable?

Didier Drogba, who is now plying his trade at Turkish side Galatasaray, is nearing 35 and with his wage demands being so high the entire deal seems like a mistake waiting to happen.

Where would he play in side that consists of Fernando Torres, Demba Ba, Romeu Lukaku, Andre Schurrle and the young Lucas Piazon? The thing is, he wouldn’t.

Also, would he want to come back and possibly tarnish his amazing reputation at the club that made him a living legend to the fans?

His last kick for Chelsea being in the 2012 Champions League Final to win the trophy for the first time in the clubs history. Perhaps he should consider these factors before thinking about returning to a club that is moving forward and not resting on their past triumphs. Only time will tell if the king will return to his kingdom.
