Tomas Kalas is one of Europe's most promising defensive prospects and Jose Mourinho could be set to fast-track him into the Chelsea first-team this season.
Mourinho did something similar last season with French international Raphael Varane, showing upmost faith in him by handing him a starting place in key fixtures against Manchester United and Barcelona.
He could be set to recreate this faith with the Czech Republic international.
Kalas made 58 appearances for Vitesse in a loan spell starting back in the summer of 2011 and ending last month. He was one of the stand out performers as the dutch side managed an impressive fourth-place finish.
In early July of this year, Mourinho publicly stated that Kalas would not be loaned out for the next season but, will stay and fight for his place.
The returning Blues boss saw this as a more logical alternative to bringing in a new young centre-back.
It's certain that Kalas will want to pay Mourinho back for this confidence he has shown in him with some great performances next season, just as Varane repaid this faith in a similar way.
Whether he is able to nail down a starting spot as soon as this upcoming Premier League campaign is a different story, but with David Luiz and Branislav Ivanovic linked with moves to PSG and Barcelona respectively, he may just get his chance.
