Sport can be a cruel mistress at times. Just ask TJ Grant.

The Canadian fighter was scheduled to fight Benson Henderson for the UFC Lightweight title at UFC 164 on August 31, but injury has since forced him to pull out of that fight. It was a devastating blow for Grant, but it has worked out nicely for UFC fans, as Grant's slot in that UFC has now been taken by Anthony Pettis.

Pettis will now challenge Henderson for the title in what is an eagerly anticipated and long sought after re-match. The two first met each other for the now defunct WEC organisation's Lightweight title in December 2010. Pettis won that fight by a unanimous decision, and few would bet against him repeating that result in August.

Most fans will hope that the rematch contains as much action as the first meeting; a fight which contained one of the most outrageously spectacular moves in MMA history. It was a move which is now known as the "Showtime Kick".

The vast majority of fans will also probably concede that Henderson v Pettis was the fight they wanted to see anyway. With all due respect to Grant, he doesn't have the same "wow factor" as Pettis.

TJ Grant will now be hoping that he doesn't need to wait long for another title shot, but he need look no further than his replacement should he wish to find any crumbs of comfort.

Pettis himself recently had to pull out of a UFC Featherweight title fight against Jose Aldo. He has been fortunate in that he has only had to wait four weeks for his second chance.

Whilst it is incredibly unlikely that Grant will get a reprieve in the space of four weeks, as Pettis has done, he can at least take comfort in the knowledge that second chances aren't as rare as people seem to think.
