Manchester United will miss out on another transfer target if they do not raise their bid for Leighton Baines, as the Everton defender is ready to sign a new deal.
According to the People, new Old Trafford manager David Moyes is keen to be reunited with his former charge, but the Premier League champions are unwilling to go above £12million to make it happen.
The report claims this will be a final take-it-or-leave-it offer, though it will fall short of Everton chairman Bill Kenwright’s valuation of the 28-year-old, which is closer to £18million.
Baines is reportedly not agitating for a move and will happily sign an extension to his current deal, which expires in two years time and would give him a significant pay rise.
Losing out on Baines would be another blow to Moyes, as he has so far failed to land any of his preferred targets this summer.
Barcelona midfielder Thiago Alcantara was reportedly close to agreeing a deal with the Red Devils, but opted to join Bayern Munich instead this week.
Manchester United have also reportedly made a bid for former Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas, but Barcelona manager Tito Vilanova today claimed the midfielder did not want to join the Old Trafford club.
