Marouane Fellaini backed for Manchester United transfer
Manchester United told to move for Everton midfielder Marouane Fellaini
Former Manchester United star Lou Macari has backed the Premier League champions to move for Everton's Marouane Fellaini, rather than pursue a transfer for Barcelona midfielder Cesc Fabregas.
David Moyes has been credited with a formal offer for Fabregas as he searches for midfield reinforcements, while Fellaini has also been mentioned as a transfer target for the new Manchester United boss.
Macari, though, believes Fellaini would be the best bet for Moyes as he looks to reinforce his Manchester United squad following the retirement of Old Trafford legend Paul Scholes.
"What Fellaini gives you, which Fabregas doesn’t, is goals," Macari told talkSPORT.
"He likes to get forward and I’m not sure [Fabregas] gives you that.
"What Fabregas does do, though, is give you the ability to knock the balls around."
Macari's assertion that Fellaini possesses a superior goalscoring ability to Fabregas is not, however, entirely accurate, with both players finding the net on 11 occasions in the league last season.
Fabregas, meanwhile, has scored a total of 57 goals in 168 appearances for both Arsenal and Barcelona over the past four seasons, while Fellaini has netted 23 times in the same period of time.
