Manchester United have been told they must break their transfer record if they want to sign Barcelona midfielder Cesc Fabregas.
According to the Daily Mirror, David Moyes is so keen on the 26-year-old that that the Old Trafford moneymen are ready to go as high as £31million to sign him.
This would be a new record transfer for Manchester United, just exceeding the £30.8million they paid Tottenham Hotspur for Dimitar Berbatov in 2008.
Barcelona manager Tito Vilanova yesterday claimed the former Arsenal captain was not interested in a switch to the Premier League champions and wanted to stay at Camp Nou.
However, the report claims Fabregas is privately open to the idea of a move to Manchester United after becoming disillusioned with the way Vilanova has been using him.
Now the arrival of Brazilian superstar Neymar has him believing that he will have even fewer first team opportunities.
Fabregas only moved to Barcelona from Arsenal two years ago, but the supposed ‘homecoming’ of the former La Masia product has not been as sweet as was envisaged when he departed Emirates Stadium.
