Roma launch Gervinho bid

Italian side AS Roma have made a formal offer for Arsenal winger Gervinho, according to the Daily Mail.

The fee is thought to be around £6.9million for the Ivory Coast international, but it is not known as to whether or not Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger wants to sell the winger.

Gervinho hasn't fulfilled his potential at the Emirates Stadium since joining the club from French side Lille back in 2011 for an estimated fee of around £10.8million.

Gervinho has made just under 50 appearances for the Gunners scoring nine goals along the way, but the 26-year-old hasn't won over large portions of the Arsenal fans.

It looks like the forward could be on his way out this summer as the manager continues his summer clear-out that has already seen Andrey Arshavin, Denilson and Sebastian Squillaci leave the club.

As well as Roma, it is thought that French side Lyon are also interested in Gervinho and they are weighing up the options of making a bid for the winger as they could also offer one of their midfielders as part of the deal.

The French side are willing to offer Arsenal Yoann Gourcuff plus cash for the Ivoarian international and as the English side are looking for a midfielder, it is thought that Wenger may be interested in this offer.

Gourcuff is eager to leave Lyon and the 27-year-old has previously been on Wenger's radar.

Gervinho hasn't travelled with Arsenal on their pre-season tour of the Far East but Wenger insisted that was because the player was sick, however his future is far from safe and he may have played his last ever game in an Arsenal shirt.
