Leighton Baines has said that Everton are adapting to Roberto Martinez's demanding style of play.

Everton have been on a tour of Austria and the left-back claims that it has done the side good, as they look to adapt to their new manager's slick, passing strategy.

Speaking to the club's official website, Baines said: "It’s a work in progress at the moment. There’s a change in style of play and the way that we’re going to play this year," he admitted.

“The week was all about the workload we could get in. We’ve been doing three sessions a day, everyone played 45 minutes Sunday.

"It was just about capping off the week’s work and getting ready for games.

“We’ve got to start to adapt now to the way the manager wants us to play so that’s what today [Sunday] was about.

Baines' future has come under much speculation this summer - with former manger David Moyes reportedly wanting to link back up with the England international at Manchester United - but it looks as if the 28-year-old will remain at Goodison Park next season, due to his current club's reluctance to sell.

It will come as a massive boost for Martinez, as he looks to build on Everton's sixth-placed finish last-term.

Baines proved himself to be Everton's prized asset last season, playing in every Premier League game and putting in a host of stellar performances.

And, it is little wonder that he was fit enough to be able to cope with high amount of regular football when hearing his views about pre-season training.

“I always enjoy training and pre-season – I’m a bit sick like that”, Baines enthused. “I enjoy the hard work and running around and the sun is normally out so pre-season is always a good time.

“You do it for yourself because you want to reap the rewards when the season starts. It’s about being in the best possible shape you can and being ready to go.”
