Jose Fernandez has said that he is thrilled to be a part of the All-Star team, as he joined up with his teammates in New York.

Fernandez is still only 20-years-old - the second youngest player to be involved in this years All-Star game - and he admits the experience has been fairly overwhelming.

Speaking to the Miami Herald, he said: "It's been amazing just to be here talking to all these guys."

"I even got a bat autographed.

"It's been crazy - nothing but signing and talking, signing and talking - a lot of stuff to sign, but I'm not complaining. I'm thrilled to be here."

Fernandez plays his club games for the Miami Marlins - where he has impressed hugely in his debut season.

The pitcher was drafted in the 2011 draft, as a 14th overall selection and only made his Major League debut in April, but has already forced his way into the All-Star team as the Marlins pick.

The Marlins are currently bottom of the National League, but Fernandez has still done enough to stand-out, despite his side's poor record.

He becomes the youngest ever Cuban to represent the All-Star team.
