Reading are ready to bring in a new striker to boost their attacking options.
Nigel Adkins has let Simon Church and Noel Hunt go already with Pavel Pogrebnyak likely to leave after saying he would like to play Premier League football.
Adkins' main target Gary Hooper is set to sign for rivals QPR this week - after the R's upped their bid to £5million.
The Royals have turned their attention to Burnley's Charlie Austin who failed a medical at Premier League, Hull City.
Austin, 24, is a former Reading trainee which could make the transfer more likely. Adkins has already confirmed there will be more transfers on the way adding to the three that have been completed already.
Billy Sharp has also been heavily linked with a move to the Madejski Stadium.
Sharp has played under Adkins twice before at Scunthorpe and Southampton but a deal is unlikely to be made this summer as the Southampton man still has two years left on his contract.
With Pogrebnyak likely to leave - the Royals will only have two proven strikers in Adam Le Fondre and Nick Blackman.
Adkins will is in desperate need for another to increase their chances of a quick return to the Premier League.
Reading's director of football, Nick Hammond told Reading Post: "When you look at the balance of the squad now, potentially we're still a striker light."
A striker is almost certain to be arriving in Reading this summer and Adkins will want it to be sooner rather than later with pre-season training in full swing.
