There is no greater occasion than playing Australia in an Ashes Test at Lord's, according to Stuart Broad, who has urged England to begin the second encounter of the series in the same manner they ended the first.

England enter into the second Test having secured a dramatic victory in the Ashes opener, with the hosts triumphing by just 14 runs over the tourists after a tense final day at Trent Bridge.

A win for England provided a psychological fillip ahead of the Lord's Test, while it served as a crushing blow to Australia who had come so close themselves to claiming the opener in Nottingham.

The stage is now set for another intense meeting between these two great rivals, and Broad says facing Australia at the home of cricket will be both an honour and a huge test for England.

"Lord's is always hugely special, it's what you play the game for really - to play Australia at Lord's," the 27-year-old told GiveMeSport.

"We know if we put in a strong performance at Lord's on what we think will be a pretty good batting surface we can set ourselves up in this series."

England's 1-0 lead in the series ensures they have a significant advantage on their quest to secure a hat-trick of Ashes triumphs, but Broad has warned against any complacency when the second Test begins.

"It's important you don't look too far ahead because so much can happen in five days of Test cricket like last week showed us," he added.

"But we need to make sure we continue with that momentum and start well on Thursday so we're not chasing the game."
