David Haye: George Groves deserves shot at Carl Froch

David Haye believes George Groves deserves a shot at Carl Froch and that the Londoner has what it takes to defeat the champion.

Groves and Froch have been linked with the showdown for some time and Haye told Sky Sports it was the right time for the pair to meet.

"If George Groves isn't ready now when will he be ready? Who does he have to beat before people say he is ready?” he said.

Groves is now the mandatory challenger for Froch’s IBF super-middleweight title and the Sky Sports report claims a meeting between the pair has been mooted before the end of 2013.

Eddie Hearn is promoter for both man and hinted the pair could meet in an all-British bout.

Haye is a friend of Groves and believes the Londoner has the weapons to cause the champion problems, but he wasn’t about to predict a winner if the bout becomes reality.

"He is ranked number one behind him, so who else should he fight? There aren't many people out there either, so if he's not ready now, he'll never be ready,” added Haye.

"They have both got the capabilities of beating each other. It's down to the one who sticks to his guns and does it right on the night."

Haye recently signed up for his first fight since defeating Derek Chisora last year, taking on Tyson Fury in another all-British showdown on September 28 in Manchester.
