Manchester City and Chelsea have been given until Friday to secure the signing of Stevan Jovetic or miss out on signing the highly-rated striker, according to the Daily Star.

Jovetic is understood to be high on new Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini's list of targets and he wants to bring the Montenegrin ace to the Etihad - as he looks to find a replacement for Carlos Tevez.

However, after already splashing out around £45million this summer on securing the transfers of Fernandinho and Jesus Navas, the £27million price tag that Fiorentina want for Jovetic may be a stumbling block.

And the City manager does not have much longer to consider whether to make a move or not as Fiorentina's honorary president Andrea Della Valle has said: "We need to know if they have the money or not. I believe they do have it.

"We're not going to accept anything to offset the fee; we are not dropping below £25m and we're not going to wait much longer."

Mourinho, meanwhile, seems to have set his sights on bringing Wayne Rooney to Stamford Bridge - saying that the Manchester United frontman is his only summer target.

However, Chelsea have been linked with Jovetic throughout the transfer window and if they are to act on their interest then they will not have much more time to make their move.
