Napoli have emerged as the frontrunners to sign Tottenham Hotspur and Southampton target Leandro Damiao, as new manager Rafael Benitez has been given in excess of £108million to spend this summer.
The Brazilian forward would be seen as a near ideal replacement for Uruguayan Edinson Cavani, who yesterday completed his move to Paris St Germain for £56million.
The Serie A club are hoping to use the money generated from his sale to bring in Damiao and Real Madrid's wantaway forward Gonzalo Higuain.
Club president Aurelio De Laurentiis revealed on Twitter: "It's true that we're negotiating for Gonzalo Higuain and Leandro Damiao.
"The money we got for Cavani was 64.5mil (euros) and added to the 60mil we had set aside for the transfer budget there will be 124.5mil to carefully invest on Napoli."
De Laurentiis then went on to say that they are close to securing the services of Real Madrid defender Raul Albiol.
"(Albiol) is undergoing medical tests and we hope he passes them," De Laurentiis added.
Damiao, 23, has been a long-term target for Spurs and the gauntlet has been thrown to them to increase their interest in the Internacional player.
