Reading's defensive midfielder Daniel Carrico has today completed a season-long loan deal to Sevilla.

The ex-Sporting Lisbon man spent just six months in Reading making just three appearances for the Royals. After completing his medical today, the Reading FC club website posted, "we would like to wish Daniel the very best of luck at Sevilla and thank him for his hard work and professionalism during his six months at Reading Football Club."

Understandably some fans were frustrated with his quick exit after Brian McDermott brought him in for £600,000 in January. There will, however, be a chance for Carrico to redeem himself when he returns next year. But, in an interview he said, “Sevilla is a great club, I would love to play for them. I will not be staying at Reading.” This suggests he will look for a permanent move away when he returns.

In his early career Carrico looked an exciting prospect playing 16 games for Portugal Under-21's. He also made 91 appearances for Sporting Lisbon but fell out of favour and looked to the Premier League and Reading.

The deal seemed a bargain with Manchester City preparing a £12 million bid just two seasons before. But it wasn't to be as Carrico failed to impress in his first 45 minutes against West Brom and was not played again until the last games of the season.

Sevilla start their Liga BBVA campaign with a home encounter with Atletico Madrid and Carrico will hope he can prove to his new, and old club he can still perform at the highest level.
