If Manchester United can swoop Cesc Fabregas away from Barcelona then his quality will undoubtedly give them the edge in, what will be, a very tight title race next season.
Clearly Barcelona want to keep one of their prize assets but, if United can table a sizeable bid then it could be a huge coup for the Red Devils similar to the Robin van Persie signing.
Many United followers believe that David Moyes should bolster his midfield with a truly world-class player.
Cesc Fabregas is certainly in this bracket of players.
United have lost Paul Scholes to retirement and there is question mark over the futures of Nani and Anderson at the club. Giggs is also very near to finishing his career. Despite trying the likes of Phil Jones in midfield, he is no match for Fabregas.
From Arsenal to Barcelona and with Spain, he has continually produced regular excellent performances. He can add to United's midfield by adding dominance and could create an influential relationship with Michael Carrick as they will complement each other in their styles of play.
Carrick is a tremendous passer and distributor of a football and Fabregas can add that extra support to Van Persie with his runs from midfield. He is also capable of a defence splitting pass.
Fabregas' influence on the pitch is easy to see. At Barcelona he has impressive stats - in 96 appearances for the club he has scored 29 goals and assisted 32 goals. Previously at Arsenal, in 303 appearances, he scored 57 goals and assisted in 100 others. With these stats there is no wonder United want him at Old Trafford.
Despite only being 26 years of age his career is littered with trophies and accolades - including a World Cup winners medal in 2010 and two European Championship winners medals in 2008 and 2012 - and he already has 83 caps for the Spanish national side.
A price of around £30m would indeed be money well spent as the added experience and quality he will bring to United's midfield is priceless. Arsenal will have the opportunity to buy back Fabregas should he become available, if they can match the price, but United will surely up their game if they truly believe Fabregas is the man for them.
United though must also keep hold of Wayne Rooney if they are to compete for the title again. His value must not be underestimated and retaining a world-class player like him will only help their cause.
