Brazilian football legend Ronaldo, who had brought much joy to his fans with his dazzling footballing skills, is ready to dazzle and bring joy to his fans once again, albeit through a completely different medium.

The man, who almost single-handedly won Brazil the 2002 FIFA World Cup with his virtuoso displays, is said to be hoping to buy the huge Playboy franchise in his native country and is reportedly close to making a bid for the hugely popular men’s magazine.

Ronaldo who retired from professional football in 2011, having played for clubs like Real Madrid, Barcelona, AC Milan and Inter Milan, has subsequently made himself a billionaire with his shrewd investments and endorsement deals.

He receives around £10 million a year from sponsors which include the likes of Nike, Fiat and Duracell. His marketing company 9INE which manages the image rights to some of Brazil’s biggest stars, including Neymar, Lucas Moura and Leandro Damiao is estimated to make £15 million in 2014, according to a spokesman.

In a bid to further expand his business, Ronaldo is now said to be targeting the Brazilian edition of Playboy which is the tenth-best selling magazine in the country. It is also credited with having the third largest readership of the magazine in the world.

However in the last decade, it has not been able to keep up with its performances during the 1990s. ‘The phenomenon’, as Ronaldo is popularly called, though, is not too worried and believes that his ‘midas’ touch will lift the fortunes of the magazine once again.

The man who is the highest goalscorer in the history of the World Cup also owns a chain of gyms, a sports clinic, and a six-storey building which houses a Rio de Janeiro university along with a nightclub in Rio’s most posh neighbourhood, Leblon.

Apart from that, he has apartments in several cities across the world including Rio, Sao Paulo, Paris and Madrid and even owns a private island off the coast of Rio.
