Real Madrid are set to make a sensational bid to bring Sergio Aguero to the Bernabeu, according to the Metro.

The Spanish giants have been linked with the Argentinean striker for a number of  months, and are now set to make a formal bid to test City's resolve.

Aguero pledged his future to the club in May in the wake of speculation linking him with a move away from the club.

But with the expected arrival of Alvaro Negredo from Sevilla in the next 24 hours and strong interest in Fiorentina's Stevan Jovetic, Aguero may find himself down the pecking order so could re-evaluate his options.

Edin Dzeko has also been told he has a part to play in new manager Manuel Pellegrini's plans, so if the right offer came in City may be tempted to sell Aguero.

But with Madrid set to lose Gonzalo Higuain in the near future, Real boss Carlo Ancelotti wants to strenghten his attack and Aguero would be the perfect fit.

The Argentian has proved to be a popular figure at the Etihad stadium scoring 47 goals in all competitions since his move from Atletico Madrid.

He will always be remembered as the man that scored 'that goal' as City won the English league title for the first time in 44 years in 2012
