Crisitan Tello is close to signing a contract extension for Barcelona, according to the Spanish daily newspaper AS.
The 21-year-old has three years remaining on his current deal, and after months of negotiations, a meeting between his agent Josep Maria Orobitg and the club's director of football, Andoni Zubizarreta, a longer deal will soon be completed.
Competition for the Spain Under 21 international's place has increased at the Nou Camp this summer, with the signing of Brazilian attacker Neymar from Santos, but the Primera Liga champions are satisfied with the form he has showed since making his first-team debut in 2011.
Tello has scored 15 goals in 56 matches since then and the club did not want sell another youngster this summer, with Thiago Alcantara's departure to Bayern Munich for £21.5m. They believe the youngster has the potential to hold down a more regular spot in the team in the future.
Manager Tito Vilanova is said to have requested an improvement on Tello's current deal, which had an £8.5m release clause. It had been reported earlier this summer that Liverpool were interested in activating it but Barcelona are not willing to sell their prospect.
