When international friendlies or competitions come up, it is a joy to see all the defensive talent come together to form impressive defensive lines.

5. France - Bacary Sagna; Raphaël Varane; Mamadou Sakho; Patrice Evra

Widely considered to be one of the most promising central defensive partnerships of the future, the youth of Varane and Sakho is nicely sheltered by the experience of the Manchester United and Arsenal fullbacks.

1. Belgium - Toby Alderweireld; Vincent Kompany; Thomas Vermaelen; Jan Vertonghen

On set pieces, it is routine for central defenders to come up for headers. In the case of the Belgians, an entire back-line of centre backs can be seen coming up for a corner.
