Manchester United are preparing to make a £60million bid for Tottenham winger Gareth Bale as new manager David Moyes eyes a big summer-signing, reports the Daily Mirror.
United have been hitting the headlines recently due to speculation surrounding striker Wayne Rooney and it is thought that Moyes and the club's officials want the headlines to be taken away from the saga. They are prepared to spend big in order to bring in a big signing.
The English champions have been strongly linked with FC Barcelona duo Cesc Fabregas and Thiago Alcantara, but it seems like they will miss out on the ex-Arsenal captain as he looks set to stay in Spain and as for Thiago, he has joined Champions League winners Bayern Munich.
The United team are currently on a pre-season tour of Australia, but the club's vice chairman, Ed Woodward has already returned from the tour so that he can deal with some serious transfer business.
It was first thought that the business was about Benfica's Ezequiel Garay and Barcelona's Cesc Fabregas, but it has now been reported that the Premier League champions are bidding up to £60million for Tottenham winger Gareth Bale.
Spurs have already fought off heavy interest from Spanish giants Real Madrid for their star-asset, but it now appears they will have to fend off the Premier League champions as they plan to make the Welshman their first big summer-signing.
