Sunderland are expected to complete the signing of Argentinian defender Gino Peruzzi as manager Paolo di Canio continues to rebuild the team ahead of the 2013/14 season.
According to the Daily Mail, Peruzzi has arrived on Wearside today to complete a medical after his club Velez Sarsfield agreed to sell the full-back for £5m.
The 21-year-old had been a major target for the Black Cats this summer and after months of negotiations, the two clubs finally reached an agreement.
The player is expected to join up with the Sunderland squad flying out to Hong Kong for the Barclays Asia Trophy next week, where they will face Tottenham and Manchester City.
Peruzzi becomes Di Canio's tenth summer signing as he continues to revamp the team ahead of the new Premier League season.
The Argentinian's arrival could spell the end to Phil Bardsley's Sunderland career, the former Manchester United defender was involved in a bust up with Di Canio at the back-end of last season and has since been cast into the wilderness.
Fulham, Hull City and QPR have all been linked with acquiring the services of the 28-year-old.
