Marseille have joined the chase to sign Bafetimbi Gomis from Lyon, after he rejected an offer from Fenerbahce, according to Talksport.
Gomis has been linked with a move to the Premier League throughout the summer – with Cardiff, Hull and Newcastle all reportedly keeping tabs on the powerful striker.
However, the French international may now favour a move to Marseille as it allows him to stay in his native country – where he has played for the entirety of his career so far.
It will come as a blow to the Premier League quartet, who all had identified Gomis as a potential target this summer.
Gomis has scored 50 goals in 145 appearances for Lyon so far, but has not been promised first-team football this season and has been told that he can move on.
He signed from Lyon from St. Etiene in 2009 and his physical approach will be suited to the high-tempo Premier League style, if he does choose to move to England’s top division.
