All the avid Manchester United fan who witnessed the defeat to the Singha All-Star XI last weekend would have noticed something different on the field - something they hadn't seen before.
First it was on the right, then it was on the left, and five minutes later you saw it charging towards the opposition goal-mouth. Well, charging may be the wrong word - floating might be more accurate.
This thing you hadn't seen before, which bore the number 44 on its back, was none other than United's newest young talent - Adnan Januzaj.
For those of you who don't know anything about Januzaj - which is everybody who didn't hear Paddy Crerand's obsessive raves about him on MUTV last Saturday - here are a few things that you should know. After all he may soon be ousting a disheartened Wayne Rooney from the starting line-up.
Januzaj is an 18-year-old attacking midfielder from Belgium, who United snapped up a couple of years ago from under the noses of none other than Barcelona.
After being highly-rated at his old club Anderlecht, Sir Alex Ferguson sent the executive order to pick him up as soon as possible. Ever since, Januzaj has been wowing opposition player and his United team-mates alike. There was even some suggestion that United let go of highly-rated youngster Mats Daehli to make room for Januzaj. Yeah - he's that good.
In the previously mentioned disaster match against the Singha All-Stars, Januzaj was the one ray of light (besides maybe Wilfried Zaha).
He buzzed all over the field and made some good passes. One thing that immediately comes to mind is a ridiculous control and turn that he pulled on the line under intense pressure from an opponent defender.
Januzaj demonstrates immense ball control and dribbling skills for someone so young, and has a really good eye for a pass. One fluffed chance aside, Januzaj truly left a mark on the game - even if it wasn't reflected on the scoreboard.
Januzaj is definitely a player to watch out for: he seems mature beyond his years and he has to potential to start making an impact as early as this year.
Moyes is known to choose his starting line-up more on the basis of performance than age, so Januzaj will have ample chance to win over the United fans over the course of the season.
Remember Januzaj, because when he is scoring the winner in some important game this season, you can say that you knew about him from the start.
