Christian Benteke has reported back for the first day of pre-season training with Aston Villa despite rumours he was ready to stay away in order to force through a move to Tottenham.

The Belgian impressed in his maiden Premier League campaign last time round, hitting 19 goals to help the Villains avoid the drop.

His form reportedly attracted interest from the likes of Tottenham and Chelsea, prompting the powerful to hand in a transfer request last week.

Villa remain adamant that they won't let their main striker depart for anything less than £25 million while Spurs want to pay significantly less than that.

Talks between the two clubs are said to be underway and Benteke was hopeful that he would be able to avoid returning to training with Villa by sealing a switch to White Hart Lane.

However he has moved to avoid a transfer stand-off by reporting back for pre-season at Villa's training ground today.

The former Genk man didn't travel with Villa on their recent tour of Germany, amidst reports the Midlands club would fine him if he failed to rune up for training.
