After speculation that Thiago Alcantara would be joining the English champions, Manchester United, it was announced that Bayern Munich were interested in the young Spanish International.

Not long after and Bayern had confirmed the signing of the attacking-midfielder - adding him to the purchase of Mario Götze, from rivals Borussia Dortmund.

Thiago's reason for wanting to leave the Camp Nou was to be a first-team player.

At Barcelona he was behind the likes of Xavi, Iniesta, Busquets and Fabregas, who has also found it difficult to break into Tito Vilanova's side.

In a search for first-team football, Thiago moved to the European champions being reunited with former boss Guardiola - but will Pep be able to provide him with first-team football?

While the Bayern boss has said that Thiago is in his plans, with such a large number of midfielders at the club, Thiago will no doubt find a spot in the first-team difficult to come by.

With competition form Javi Martinez, Bastien Schweinsteiger, Toni Kroos, Mario Götze, Thomas Muller, Franck Ribery and Arjen Robben, Gotze will have to work extremely hard to breakthrough into this team.

Thiago's fans and will hope that the 22-year-old gets the playing time he wants at Bayern and that he does not end up like his former teammate Giovanni Dos Santos, following his transfer to Tottenham Hotspur. Whether Thiago breaks into Bayern's first-team or not, he will be a great loss for Barcelona and another one that got away from Manchster United.
