England were knocked out of Euro 2013 tonight, with the Lionesses throughout the tournament failing to win a game. The final score was 3-0 to France. England were well beaten.
Hope Powell’s side knew going into the game that they at least needed a draw to see them through to the quarter finals.
Yet a positive result for England failed to materialise. Eugenie Le Sommer opened the scoring at the second attempt after being denied by the post at the first.
After the goal, France faded and it gave England a chance to regain a foothold in the game.
The teams were playing an equal game with both having opportunities to score a goal. They went in to half time at 1-0 to France. England needed a goal.
Further disaster struck on 62 minutes for England, with France scoring again. Louisa Necib raced through the English defence and curled in a shot past Karen Bardsley.
France were not finished, they again scored two minutes later with tall defender Wendy Renard thumping in a header after a set piece. At 3-0, England’s time in the competition was coming to a quick conclusion.
England failed to comeback with any goal, with France threatening to run riot after many further chances. England struggled and failed to create notable shooting opportunities. The full time whistle blew and a miserable night for England was over. The French had given them a master class.
It was an overall miserable tournament for Hope Powell and it the Lionesses will head home embarrassed about the failure of making it into the quarter finals.
