They say that if you don't shoot, you'll never score. Well, that view has never seemed truer than in the Premier League last season, where all of the ten players that attempted over 100 shots in 2012/13 scored at least ten goals.

A questionable shots to goals ratio - maybe. But, when you consider the calibre of player in this exclusive list of stars from England's top-flight, it quickly becomes clear just how big a part they each played in their respective clubs' fortunes last year.

Take 19-goal hero Christian Benteke at Aston Villa. The big Belgian spent the majority of his debut Premier League campaign fighting to stave off the threat of relegation, almost single-handedly. And, without his considerable contribution, Paul Lambert's side would have surely failed to avoid the drop.

Another Premier League newcomer Michu, wowed fans as he chipped in with 18 goals, to help Swansea to a highest ever ninth-place finish. And then, there was Gareth Bale.

Tottenham actually missed out on Champions League qualification last year, but the PFA and FWA Player of the Year had perhaps the best individual season of anybody in the country, and was instrumental in Andre Villas-Boas's team.

It's no surprise then that a host of Europe's most illustrious clubs have shown an interest in signing the Welsh winger this summer, with Manchester United and Real Madrid both leading the chase for his signature.

If recent reports are to be believed, however, Bale will snub the advances of his suitors in favour of one more season at White Hart Lane, where he will surely play a similarly pivotal part in Spurs' fortunes next term.

So, if Bale's rise to prominence is anything to go by, there's more to be said about being a little greedy in front of goal. Click through the tabs - above or below - to see the Premier League's top 10 'shooting stars' in 2012/13.
