Nicklas Helenius could be one of the real surprise packages this season in the Premier league, joining from Danish club Aalborg for a meagre £2 million, he is beginning to be seen as the logical replacement for wantaway Belgian striker, Christian Benteke.
Standing at 6’5”, the big Dane finished second top scorer in the Danish Superliga with 16 goals last season, and scooped the coveted Player of the Year award in the process.
Unfortunately for Helenius, he was overshadowed by Cardiff City new boy, Andreas Cornelius for much of the season but Aston Villa took full advantage of this, and as all attention was on signing the wonderkid Cornelius, they stole away with Helenius for next to nothing.
The 22-year-old currently has two international caps to his name but with a good first season in the Premiership there is no reason why he can’t push Bendtner - once his national team ban is over - and Cornelius for a starting spot for Denmark.
Helenius posses nice control and footwork for someone of his substantial size, providing as much of a threat with the ball at his feet as in the air. Capable of playing as a target man, and holding the ball up, he also offers a very real goal threat with his instinctive finishing.
He already appears to have hit the ground running for Villa, with two goals in three games during their recent pre-season tour of Germany.
With the very likely possibility of Benteke moving to a bigger club, Helenius could be set for a starring role at Aston Villa in the coming season, and he has all the potential to surprise a few people in the Premier League.
