Derek Jeter back on New York Yankees DL

Published Add your comment

Derek Jeter has been placed back on the New York Yankees disabled list.

The team captain is on the DL for 15 days with a strained right quad, and is eligible to return on July 27th. Brent Lillibridge will take his place on the roster at Yankee Stadium.

Jeter missed the first 91 games of the season because of two separate fractures in his left ankle, and made his return to the line-up in the game against the Kansas City Royals on July 11th.

After going 1 for 4, the 39-year-old was forced to leave the game early, and subsequently had an MRI scan which highlighted a Grade 1 strain of the quad.

He missed the next three games, and received treatment during the all-star break. But, after failing to recover in time, he’s back on the DL.

In Jeter’s absence, Eduardo Nunez is set to continue at shortstop, with the Yankees set to take on AL East leaders the Boston Red Sox in a three-game series starting tonight (Friday).
