Arsenal defender Andre Santos is close to securing a permanent move to Flamengo, according to reports in Brazil.
The ex-Fenerbahçe man has failed to impress at Arsenal, and his reputation was damaged further when he took it upon himself to swap shirts with Robin van Persie at half-time during Arsenal's trip to Old Trafford last season.
After several poor performances, Santos fell down the pecking order at Arsenal and first-choice left-back Kieran Gibbs took his place in the starting line-up as soon as he regained fitness.
Santos' career at the Emirates Stadium was all-but over when Arsene Wenger signed Nacho Monreal in January and told the Brazilian that he could seek a loan move away from the club.
The left-back eventually joined Gremio until the end of the season, and now it looks like he is set to complete a permanent move back to his homeland.
"The Arsenal document we were waiting has come," Flamengo's director of football Paulo Pelaipe told UOL.
"Everything is agreed between the player and the club. We are just waiting for the document that authorises the transfer to announce him, it should come by Friday.
"Andre Santos is already at the club's hotel for the medical."
The possible move is an exciting one for Santos and he cannot wait to get going with the Brazilian side.
"The feeling couldn't be better, as I am very happy with the achievement of playing for a great club like Flamengo," he is quoted as telling Globo Esporte.
"I feel like a winner. I hope to make history here, be champions and help Flamengo win many games and titles."
