Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech has warned Premier League title rivals Manchester City that money doesn't buy success.
Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini hasn't hesitated in the transfer market following his appointment from Malaga earlier this summer, spending £30m on Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Fernandinho, £15.8m on Sevilla winger Jesus Navas and a combined £46m on strikers Alvaro Negredo from Sevilla and Stevan Jovetic from Fiorentina.
But Chelsea's number one goalkeeper is not intimidated following City's spending spree this summer.
Speaking to reporters in Kuala Lumpur, Cech said: "Money has never won anything.
"You can spend as much as you want but you must build a team first. Yes City have huge competition for ever place.
"They also have a new manager, new expectations and new motivations."
And Cech also highlighted that Manchester City, despite their spending will not be their only rivals for the Premier League next season.
Cech also expects the likes of Arsenal and Tottenham to challenge fiercely for the title next season.
"And if they build a team they will be a tough opponent and rival for us in the Champions League and for the Premier League title.
"But so will Manchester United. So will Arsenal, Tottenham and Liverpool. Arsenal's spell without trophies is too long, they want to prove their critics wrong," he continued.
But Cech insists that his only focus is on Chelsea's title challenge, not the signings of his rivals.
"So at Chelsea, we know it's going to be a tough season but we're here as well and working hard to be ready for the challenge.
"We'll try our best to win the league. Our aim is to do the very best we can.
"We know what our objectives and targets are and will go game by game and try to win everything we can and then see," Cech added.
