Arsenal defender Carl Jenkinson has insisted that the reception the team have received in the Far East for their pre-season tour has given them a huge boost ahead of the new season.

The Gunners have been overwhelmed by the reception that has greeted them in the three countries they have visited so far during their Far East tour.

Arsene Wenger's men have stopped at Indonesia and Vietnam so far and they are now currently in Japan as they prepare for their next pre-season friendly.

So far the friendlies have been good for Wenger and his players as on both occasions they have knocked seven past their opponents and only conceded once.

It has been striker Olivier Giroud who has set alight the Far East with his brace in the opening game and then his hat-trick in the second game, but Arsenal right-back Carl Jenkinson believes regaining their fitness is the most important thing during the tour.

“Everyone is having a great time - I think part of that is down to the fans,” the defender told Arsenal Player.

“They give you a massive lift all the time. It's difficult in pre-season - there's a lot of hard work and a lot of running and it can be tough.

“The fans out here have really given us a lift. It's a boost that you need during pre-season so we're very grateful for that.

“The support and passion the fans have - it's miles better than playing a [pre-season friendly] in England in front of 5,000 people.

“It's completely different. It feels like a cup final when you're playing out there and you have an atmosphere like that. For that to be a game in pre-season is fantastic and we've all thoroughly enjoyed it.”
