Hamburg are in the process of making a £6m bid for Everton striker Nikica Jelavic, the Daily Mail have reported.

The Croatian struggled for form last season, scoring just nine goals in 43 appearances, and his place in the team was lost to Victor Anichebe, while Arouna Kone has been signed from Wigan Athletic this summer.

He had made an electric start to his time at Goodison Park after signing from Rangers in January 2012, as he scored 11 goals in his first 16 games, to help guide the Toffees to an impressive sixth place finish in the Premier League.

The 27-year-old has also made 26 appearances for his country, scoring five goals, and first-team opportunities will be important for him in the build up to the 2014 World Cup, should Croatia qualify.

Oliver Kreutz, Hamburg sporting director, chose not to shed much light on the situation.

He said: "We are dealing with it."

It is not yet clear as to whether new Everton manager Roberto Martinez sees Jelavic as part of his plans, or whether the club are willing to sell him for the given price.
