Southampton are set to make a second swoop for Italian Pablo Osvaldo, according to the Daily Mail.
Reports from Gazzetta dello Sport claimed that Southampton were set to return with a second offer for the international marksman, who recently rejected a megabucks deal to join Russian outfit Zenit St. Petersburg.
Osvaldo, 27, has become hugely unpopular with supporters of AS Roma. Fans attended a first team training session telling Osvaldo to go and displayed banners telling the striker that he was no longer wanted.
The forward has been a controversial figure during his stay in Rome, having had public bust-ups with former manager Aurelio Andreazzoli and club legend Francesco Totti. Despite this, it is believed that Osvaldo remains popular amongst the dressing room community.
He was instrumental in a season that saw AS Roma finish 6th in Serie A, before falling short in a 1-0 defeat to rivals Lazio in the Coppa Italia final. It was after this game that Osvaldo aimed a tirade of tweets at the manager.
He scored 17 goals in 31 appearances last time out, bringing his total for the Italian side to 28 goals from 57 appearances.
It is hoped that Pochettino's influence during Osvaldo's spell with Espanyol could help to clinch a potential deal, although at the moment there is no major indication of interest from the prolific attacker.
